OBEDIENCE INSTRUCTORS
Annette Flippin (Pierce) Growing up I always wanted a dog, but my parents wouldn't allow it, so I had to wait until I was an adult. I got my first dog, a Labrador, in 1996 and wanted a well-behaved pet so I looked into training classes at a nearby club and promptly became hooked on training and eventually on competitive obedience. That dog became my Novice A dog and went on to earn a UD and multiple UDX legs before having to be retired due to health issues. All of my subsequent dogs (all Labradors) have earned at least a UD and my most recently retired girl an OTCH. I am currently showing her littermate daughters which has been a fun challenge. One of them was invited to compete in both Masters Obedience at Westminster and the National Obedience Competition this year. I am hoping her sister will be joining her at both next year. My "day" job involves teaching in a graduate psychology program including a class on Work Motivation - you would be surprised how much overlap there is between motivating humans and training dogs! When not teaching and training my favorite activity is to go hiking with my dogs.

Dog training is my passion and I love to help people bring out the best in their dogs. I started out in tech but left that world years ago, preferring to work with people and their dogs. It's a career change I fell into accidentally.
40 years ago, I adopted a crazy 6-month-old Siberian Husky that was headed to the animal shelter. She needed training, oh so much training, and sooner rather than later! We started taking classes and I have been studying dog training ever since. Tasha was my Novice A dog, and I learned a lot from her. Since that time, I have put over 100 titles on dogs in Obedience, Rally, Herding, Schutzhund, Flyball, Tracking, Conformation, and a bit of NADAC Agility.
After Tasha, I was gifted with a German Shepherd named Lara, who was returned to her breeder at 11 months. She was my first Am/Can UD. German Shepherds have been my breed ever since. So far, I have trained and titled 9 German shepherds, 1 Sibe, and 1 Papillon. My most titled dog to date is Bunny: OTCh Von Sontausen Holy Grail TD UDX8 OGM BN GN VER RE TD HSCs HGH. We were invited to and showed at the National Obedience Championship 5 years in a row. We took 3rd place in Open in the first Obedience Classic. In 2015 she was the #1 German Shepherd in obedience in the country!
My current dog is a young guy named Djimi. He's a marvelous training partner and a great demo dog for classes. Djimi earned his UD in 2023 and I hope for even bigger things from him in the future!
